007

The colors are a little off on the "finished" picture.
But you get the idea. BOND! Happy birthday, Gabriel!

Making art every day round TWO (I know, late)

I know... it isn't finished. But at least it's something, right?

italians do it better

So after I cut his hair poorly, and had to have my roommate Brianna cut the rest of it off, Gabriel unknowingly lent his big thick locks to the creation of a new kind of Mimo. A really hairy one.

Back into old routine. Not finishing anything.

Mimo's first FAN drawing...

I received Mimo's first fan drawing the other day. A one Christopher Versackas has fashioned this Mimo out of a cardboard box, previously carrying vinyl records, while punched in at work. He has been reprimanded and will not do so again. But it rules, nonetheless.

A sick and twisted buddy-movie.

Mimo and I have the weekend off. We traveled on the train together to Westminster where we met a king with a fancy scepter and a pregnant moon child who, of course, is still dancing next to me as I type. Both are waiting impatiently to be full of color, but here they are so far....

It says here that I'm the MC.

Back in 2005 I was fabulous and had a Mimo tattoo... which may or may not have washed off shortly after.

alone, together.

maybe I'll get rid of the green. It's kind of.... ugly.
I'll turn it gray!
(I've never been very good at backgrounds.)

Give a little whistle.

Musical, mystical, marvelous... Mimo.

Barely legal.

So What's Mimo up to these days?
Y'know. Just chillin' with a peppermint cane.

mimonster.

Mimo made his first appearance as something else. Something fierce.

Easily the biggest canvas I had ever worked on, it hangs unfinished. Here marks the start of a large line of unfinished paintings with jagged teeth, mean hair, and a complete sense of unease.

Ghosts.

So I went to art school in the city and decided that I would major in painting. Because I loved painting. Quickly realizing that I didn't want to ruin something I loved so much by making it something I had to do to as a job, I switched to fashion design. But not before completing some paintings of my favorite sock. (three here, to be exact).

Put me in the zoo.

And so Mimo became my muse.

the start of something

Mimo
started out in the year 2000 as a sock with no clothing, brought to life by yours truly, as a gift to a friend. (He didn't really have a name at first. In '03 I named him Mimo, which is mime in spanish.) Over the next few years, Mimo donned felt fruit-shaped patches with smiles and worked his way into my friends' hearts. I charged 10$...but not actually. it's hard to take money from your friends when you can just give them something fun you've made.

In 2003, I found that Mimo was certainly a photogenic babe. Finally I made one for myself, giving him a striped shirt and matching socks. He even has a little felt heart tattoo underneath his clothing. Mimo followed me around to old abandoned asylums in central MA and found the cupboards and rusty cabinets a fun and interesting place to creep out. He even spent some time in the library where I used to work, posing with his friends such as Mama Goose Princess and Puff Dragon (who will later make an appearance).

More Polaroids will surface soon. There are some real gems for you to see.

Last night a dj saved my life.

It's 2007? It's been a year since a new genre of music saved my life. Mimo has changed from a friendly sock creature with a crooked smile to a scary, wide-eyed cave-crawling space-suited electric version of himself. Seen here in pastel pink and green, he is most certainly a different man. Teeth bared, hair flared, disco dj mimo made a perfect gift for a good friend who helped refine my taste in music, who helped save my life.

Mimo's life story will appear over the next few posts. Enjoy.

Part of the weekend never dies.

I suppose it's about time for an art blog. I've joined the party.
